The Garden Project

by Elaine on June 11, 2012

When we first moved into this house, there was a grove of shimmering aspens in the very back part of the property. As beautiful as they are, especially when they shimmer in the wind, they are self propagating, and really, the property is just not that big.

Most importantly, we wanted fruit trees. We wanted our land to provide us with as much food as possible.

We have been working hard this spring to get the “back forty” of our property ready for planting. This part fell prey to our procrastination over the last few years. I could claim that was a good thing, since I changed my mind at the end of last summer about what I wanted to do with the space.
Last summer, I realized how much sun that space gets throughout the day. I decided it was the perfect place to put the other garden. So, yesterday, after five days (spread over a little over a month) of fighting monster weeds and digging up eleven tree trunks, we finished.

Next we till it. Then we plant.
And somewhere in there, we deer-proof it.
Oh, we do have big plans for this space!

Looking good. I learn alot from you. I have a spot I want to put fruit trees but need to decide what kind of apples, plums and pears I want. And Still explanding garden space. My thumb is turning from black to so far a greenish brown…as long as I keep the plants outside. Lol.

Thanks Selinda! I’m so looking forward to seeing how it all takes form. Deciding what to plant can make you crazy:) I think I’ve changed my mind about that a few times at least, if I don’t narrow it down a bit I will have to find more room.
